This was a huge step for the Audrain Ambulance District, which was scattered between city offices and the hospital. The new station design more than triples the size of the existing station and benefits the District by consolidating all of its needs in one central location. In the fall of 2011, Audrain Ambulance District began working with PWA on the new station which was to be constructed on the existing site and include administration offices, living space, sleeping quarters, 4 apparatus truck bays, and a training facility.
Audrain Ambulance wanted a building that would not only convey a sense of security to the community but would also be secure in extreme weather. The training facility, which is a hardened space in case of tornadoes and other extreme weather, is available for the community to use for local events. After several possible sites were investigated, a site just on the east side of Mexico, Missouri off of Kelly Parkway was selected. The groundbreaking was held on August 20th and the project was completed in May of 2014.
