Fire Station No. 16
Boone County Fire Protection District
In 2014, the Boone County Fire District asked PWA to reimagine some of the original prototypical designs previously completed for the district. PWA began by combining several different ideas from other projects, which intrigued the district. Then the design team brought those elements together in the newest BCFD Station #16.
This new fire station has larger apparatus with drive-through capabilities, mezzanine storage, better gear, and decontamination storage, along with an open living concept for daily activities. Also included are administrative offices, a training facility, and an exercise room. The single-bay entry corridor organizational concept allows firefighters to reach the apparatus more quickly and efficiently.
Recently PWA has completed projects throughout the district for additions to several County stations for tornado safety. Also, PWA worked with the district to design a tornado safe space in the exercise room, which helps the station obtain the level of protection mandated in the building codes.
