The Columbia Police Department desired that this new Neighborhood Policing Center fill the purpose of police operations and have additional space that can be opened to the public for community events or shared with another city department. Another goal of the project was to prepare a short term and long term needs assessment of a North Municipal Center reflecting the projected growth of the community, growth of the Columbia Police Department, and services that this facility would be able to provide to the community for the next 10 and 20 years.
Design Features:
- The Center is a 24,539 square foot space, which includes an office, lobby, reception, community meeting, department meeting, specialized storage, locker rooms, and fitness space with second-floor shell space for future development.
- The second floor will also have space for the City’s Information Technology department to serve as a backup. The first floor at the south end will be constructed as a storm shelter.
- The exterior development includes public parking with public art funded through the Percent for Art program and parking areas for staff and specialized vehicles.
