Planning & Design of Firestations and Other Emergency Services Facilities

Public safety facilities and fire stations have grown into a specialty for PWA over the past 30 years. In working primarily with the BooneCounty Fire Protection District, the City of Columbia, Southern Boone County Fire Protection District, Holts Summit Fire Protection District, and the City of Boonville, PWA has developed a sense of what makes emergency service facilities work.

Public Safety Facilities should be:

  • Functional
  • Durable, with minimal maintenance
  • Easy to use
  • The right size for the job
  • The right size for the future
  • Expandable
  • Flexible

Additionally, public safety facilities should be aesthetically pleasing. They should adhere to the basic elements of architectural design, for example, harmony, balance, and rhythm, and respect and blend in with the surrounding environment, including the neighborhood in which the station is located.
