Due to growth in enrollment and changes in technology, Missouri Valley College decided to increase their library space with an addition to Mabee Auditorium. This highly visible 22,000 square foot, two-story technical library and classroom addition to the 1979 building furthers the college’s goal of staying ahead of the cutting edge in both education and technology.
The technological library is located on the North side of the ground floor to take advantage of the diffuse Northern light. A 65 seat computer lab fills the west expansion and the second floor houses six new classrooms. All classrooms are set up to for computer use by educators and students. Two classrooms are set up for the latest in technology, including provisions for 20 workstations, a surround sound system, overhead video projection, instructor control station and fiber optic cabling for efficient data transfer.
Missouri Valley College requested that the new addition shield the existing auditorium from the quadrangle and the college street. In response, the architects placed the building in an L-shape along the west and north sides. The resulting structure is the key building at the college street entrance to the campus.
